  • Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Science &Technology starts at Castle College, Nottingham
New College Nottingham opened its doors in September 2006 to the first intake of students on the Ophthalmic Foundation Degree programme. City of Westminster College in London opened its programme in September 2007. At long last the UK now has an accredited education and training programme for Ophthalmic Science Practitioners and other professional staff who undertake ophthalmic assessments and investigations. The next intake for students will be the end of 2008. Please see the Education Page for more details.

  • National Occupational Standards in Ophthalmic and Vision Science now available from Skills for Health
The Healthcare Science National Occupational Standards are now complete and are with Skills for Health. These include 16 Ophthalmic and Vision Science NOS. See our Standards area for more information.

  • Competency Framework for Ophthalmic Nursing
The competency framework for Ophthalmic Nursing was presented at the Ophthalmic Nursing Forum's annual meeting in Bristol on 24th - 26th June 2005, and can be downloaded from our Standards area.
